Ethiopian institute of corporate governance was founded in October 2013 by the private sector development (psd) hub which is under the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral associations and some initiative potential business leaders. The PSD hub formulated a road-map that could contribute for the realization of good corporate governance in Ethiopia. The road-map has identified actors who involve in the implementation process of corporate governance and based on this a consulting round table committee and leading steering committee were formed from members of the business community. With a sense of high responsibility and leadership, these committees drafted the Ethiopian code of corporate governance (as it has been given priority).
The drafted code was then submitted to the general assembly for further discussion and after thorough discussion, the entire participants and stakeholders have approved the draft code. In the meantime, in order to justify the determination of the participants and stakeholders in realizing the institute, a fund raising program was organized and in a very short period of time more than half a million of eth. Birr has been promised.
